Network marketing, also known as multi-level marketing and referral marketing, is popular with people looking for an alternative income or part-time business opportunity they can start alongside their current commitments, job or business. The amount of flexibility it provides is unparalleled to any other type of business and where the initial investment requirement is generally low. That, coupled with the fact that many have made a lot of money in this field, makes it a sound option for anyone who desires to venture into the business world.
Whilst network marketing has the potential to provide a steady source of income it does, just like traditional business, require focus, determination and a positive mindset to make it work.
For some it is an entirely different concept to working for an employer or being self-employed and therefore to help understanding I have selected five books which will help if you are new to business or network marketing.
“Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiwosaki:
This book sold 28 million copies – in 51 different languages and in 109 different countries! There must be a reason for that, right? The book is about the two dads in Robert’s life – his own (poor dad) and his best friend’s (rich dad) and talks about how both helped shape his thoughts about money and investing and how you can make money work for you.
To illustrate this he introduces the concept of Cashflow Quadrant which is explained in more detail in a blog I did some time ago at and explains how you can take control of your financial future.
If you’re considering any business, not just network marketing, it would help to read what is possibly the best book ever written on personal finance!
“The Business of the 21st Century” by Robert Kiwosaki:
This book is also by the previous author who explains how you can take advantage of these economic times to build wealth and create a happier life through network marketing! In this book, he takes the invaluable lessons of his previous book and builds upon them in a way that appears even more coherent in the current business scenario. For those considering network marketing there is a particularly good summary at:
“How To Win Friends And Influence People” by Dale Carnegie:
The title of this book says it all really. First published in 1936 it has become an all time must-read for anyone who wants to improve their relationships and interactions with everyone in their life and business and given that network marketing is essentially done by word-of-mouth this book is significant in helping change attitudes and developing long lasting and meaningfull relationships.
A couple of quotes include “it changed my life” (Warren Buffet) and “The most successful self-help book of all time… Carnegie has never seemed more relevant” (The Times)
I would even go as far to say this book will change your life!
“Who Moved My Cheese” by Dr Spencer Johnson:
This book is a fable about how to cope positively with change.
In the book, cheese is a metaphor for what you want to have in life, for example a good job, a loving relationship, money or possessions, health or spiritual peace of mind. The maze is where you look for what you want, perhaps the organisation you work in, or the family or community you live in. The problem is that the cheese keeps moving.
In the story, the characters are faced with unexpected change in their search for the cheese. One of them eventually deals with change successfully and writes what he has learned on the maze walls for you to discover. You’ll learn how to anticipate, adapt to and enjoy change and be ready to change quickly whenever you need to.
Discover the secret of the writing on the wall for yourself and enjoy less stress and more success in your work and life. Written for all ages, this story takes less than an hour to read, but its unique insights will last a lifetime.
A must-have for not only those who are about to start a new business, but for everyone who is not very comfortable with unforeseen changes in life!
“Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill:
THINK AND GROW RICH is the most widely acclaimed, influential book on success ever published. A timeless classic it presents a systematic nuts-and-bolts approach to developing the skills and mindset required to achieve exceptional success in any field or endeavour, personal or professional.
This book talks about the psychological power of your thoughts, the subconscious, and the brain overall on your achievements and goals, both professionally and personally and explains in detail the steps required to achieve those goals, along with numerous self-tests and checklists to aid learning.
In conclusion, whilst there are many other books available, I trust these will be helpful as you explore further into how network marketing has become the fastest growing profession in recent years.
